Our History
In 1964 Gibbys Audio Video opened its doors in St.Catharines as an appliance repair facility, then gradually a video rental outlet. Finally, Gibbys emerged as a Home Electronics, Audio/Video store.
Almost 20 years ago, Owner/General Manager, Duane Gibson, (yes that’s Gibby), began to explore the new and mostly unknown world of e-Commerce. That decision marked the beginning of an exciting journey to national recognition for Gibbys across Canada.
In Niagara Falls Ontario in 1964 the Electronic Supermarket opened as a Home Electronics store called Dino’s Sound Cove. Eventually, it would open in St.Catharines as the Electronic Supermarket and later purchased by Owner/Manager, Rod Hebert. Under Rod’s direction, The Electronic Supermarket became well-known in the Niagara Region for Home Electronics and for custom and commercial installations.
After 46 years of growth and success for both Gibbys Audio Video, and the Electronic Supermarket Duane and Rod combined the strengths of the two companies. In November of 2010 Gibbys Electronic Supermarket was created. With Duane’s focus on retail and online operations and Rod’s expertise in custom and commercial applications, the partnership provides a much greater benefit to our customers than they ever could independently.
In 2019 Gibbys moved into a beautiful new state-of-the-art 30,000 square foot Showroom-Warehouse location at 451 Eastchester Ave. East, St. Catharines, Ontario. This spacious and modern new location has not only increased the magnitude of Gibbys retail location but the product displays are simply the finest electronics showroom presentation in the Niagara Region and beyond. Our new warehouse facility has elevated Gibbys to a “World-Class” level with a significantly improved ability to fulfill and ship products across Canada more quickly, efficiently, and more securely than ever before.
