For Allen Fraser, helping people deal with their emotional distress has always been a drive. Even as a teenager, Allen felt that his calling was in guiding others toward a better life deprived of such destructive emotions as self-loathing, grief or guilt. With the right therapist, he thought, everyone could hope to get "cured" and achieve peace of mind.
He puts his money where his mouth is in 1974 when he first started counselling at the Family Services of Metro Toronto and the Jewish Child and Family Services. He spent 10 years between the two and Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, helping men and women overcome the different challenges that life threw at them.
Armed with his Master of Social Work from Ontario College, he opened his private practice in 1984, in an effort to better serve his patients. Almost 30 years later, he is still going strong, assisting people in the Greater Toronto Area so they can "Learn to Let Go of Holding On”, as he says.
